Each pond we construct is designed to be a unique and independent water feature. We pay careful consideration to balance and scale on each and every waterfeature project we build.
No two should look alike. Yes they may have some simular features, but we do not install what I call “clone” water features or ponds. We feel each and every client has different ideas of what their feature may look like.

Bubblers are really the only types of water features that may look simular to one another. Most of our clients don’t want the water to show. This means you have to fill up with cobbles. Drilled columns do tend to look alike. Having a unique bubbler is difficult but not impossible.
All our ponds and water features are warranted to be functional, in scale and of course non leaking.

Since 1996 or so water features have been an absolute hit with home owners. Some are installed correctly and many are not. Many folks now realize that water features, ponds and waterfalls require some work and attention. I have noticed the past three years that water features while still popular are not bid as much as in the past. I think the discouraged people of poorly designed and constructed water features have spread the word. They are right and they are wrong about their assumptions. All water features need good filtration. Finding a balance can be tricky. If you use skimmers, which remove pollen, leaves, dust, etc every day they are in operation, you must clean out the basket on a regular basis. Not cleaning them is a great way to have a dirty pond. Bio filters are an o.k. way to keep a pond clean. You must however make sure that the dust, pollen and leaves do not accumulate so much that your bio filter does not work. Bio filters must be able to break down the accumulation.

Many folks say they don’t want fish. It seems about 90% of all those that say they do not want the little critters get them. Many even make the jump to Koi. Point is that the pond was not designed to filter fish waste. Those that do not get fish tend to use chlorine based products.to keep the pond clean. I guess to each his own, but your biological system of your pond is always fighting against you. As soon as the chlorine has dissipated, the algae comes back determined to grow all the faster. Lots of my clients hate algae of any kind. Now wait a minute. Algae in the pond means it is alive and working. It is the balance between plants and fish that helps keep your pond clean. Just envision a lake, stream, or pond without life in it. It can’t happen unless it’s polluted or the Great Salt Lake. That even has life however. Don’t try to kill all the life in your water feature. Let nature take its course.

For pond construction, waterfalls and even small lakes in Vancouver and Portland area we warranty all our work. If possible we try to use in line pumps, skimmers, bio filters, bead filters and water fall filters. Last year we built a 330,000 gallon small lake with about 30,000 gallons an hour going over the water falls. We installed 4 skimmers, 3 inline pumps, a 8,000 gallon per hour submersible pump with a water fall filtration system we designed for the lake itself. The purpose of the lake was half of it was for swimming and half 12′ deep for fish. This last summer it stayed perfectly clear and have had very little problems except too many salamanders which get caught in the skimmers. What a wonderful sight to see the fish you are trying to catch.

The point is to really think if you are willing to work with your pond as you work in your garden. If you like gardening and like the time you will spend with your pond, there is nothing more natural than enjoying something that is always growing and changing.

Many people want some sort of water feature included in their landscape.
It can be a simple bubbler. pondless water fall, reflection pond, a pond with a stream and water falls, or is some cases a very large pond with a series of water falls.
Woody’s Custom Landscaping takes your water feature very seriously. We make sure that the water feature has proper filtration using both bio filters and skimmers.
We insure proper water movement by having an adequate flow filtering through the system. This means to us that if you have let’s say, a 500 gallon pond. That 500 gallons gets recirculated every hour at least. We make sure you have a way to drain the pond, that is has an over flow pipe, an automatic filler, and proper plumbing. Most of our ponds have besides barrier cloth and liner a coat of black mortar that we adhere to the liner. All ponds and streams have natural boulders and mixed cobble that go in the stream bed and at the bottom of the pond. we like to extend the boulders out from the pond to make the site look natural and not just a pile of rocks.
