To enjoy your landscape during the day is one thing. To enjoy it a night is quite another. Most people still install incandescent low voltage lighting. Why not get on board with led lighting?
Led lights use from 3-7 watts of power each light. Some incandescent bulbs use 20-50 watts. Incandescent bulbs can have a good life span, lets say two years. Led lights last up to 17 years.
Two years ago we installed 145 led lights on a 1000 watt transformer. With incandescent low voltage lighting this probably would of been 3-1000 watt transformers. Looks to me like there is transformer cost savings as well as 2/3 less energy being used to brightly light up that landscaping. Led lighting is the sustainable way to light up your landscaping. It uses less energy. It requires less maintenance in bulb replacement and it is easier to install since wattage drop is not such a huge issue.

Why worry if the landscaper you choose is Landscape Industry Certified? It is very important to you the Home owner. What the certification means is that those who choose to go through the testing and pass the tests, are indeed qualified to install at least portions of your landscape project. At Woody’s Custom Landscaping, Inc. we have two who are Landscape Industry Certified. They have passed all segments including softscape, hardscape and irrigation. As a side note, 75% of all my employees are ICPI certified which is a national certification process for paver installation. I also have about 75% of all my employees certified with NCMA which is another national certification for retaining wall construction.

We are very excited to receive a Distinction Award from the Washington Association Of Landscape Professionals for the Kelgard Residence in the Vancouver area, Washington. The award was given at the 2009 Enviromental Landscape Award ceremony 1-18-2010. The distinction Award was for outdoor lighting. All the lights on the project were led low voltage lights which use quite a bit less energy than the incandescent low voltage lighting. In the past three years or so the lighting companies have really made a huge improvement on the quality of the lighting.
On the Kelgard project we installed over 145 low voltage lights, ranging from step lights, down lights, up lights, path lights, directiona lights, wall lights,l and even lights for her Japanese pagodas. It was a pleasure to work with Mrs. Kelgard and we thank her for allowing us to enter her project for the awards.

The homeowners wanted a serene environment for their home nestled in the Pacific Northwest. Woody’s installed about 3,000 square feet of cobble paver driveway, including a raised concrete curb to add definition. Gravel pathways encircle the house and meander through native plantings. In the center planting area, they built a 5-foot-deep koi pond and installed native plants to match the natural feel of the river in the backyard. Plantings include many plantings of shade perennials and shade shrubs.
Installation included a low voltage lighting system to make it even for enticing in the evening hours.
This home was featured in Total Landscape Care, a national magazine the month of October 2009.

This last spring we did a fairly major renovation, to a home in Lake Oswego.
The types of landscaping we installed included:
Removing unwanted shrubs and ground covers.
