The Clark County Home and Idea Fair will be having the event for three days at Clark County Fairgrounds, 17402 NE Delfel Rd., Ridgefield, WA. 98642 ,April 29th, 30th and May 1st 2011.
This year we have been asked to give a couple of seminars for the Clark County Home and Idea Fair. Our first seminar will address how easy it is to be involved in sustainable landscaping. Woody will offer simple methods to have a more sustainable approach to your landscape. Having a irrigation systems check for example, can reduce usage by a huge factor. Image the water saving you can achieve by adjusting your usage with your irrigation timer and adjusting the irrigation heads. No more water running down the street and actually having your systems come on when they are needed and not just 3 days a week or a preset program that uses too much water.
Saturdays seminar will be at 1:30 in the main hall titled: “The Ease and Breeze of Sustainable Landscaping”. Woody will speak on easy realistic approaches to improve on our sustainability.

Sundays seminar will be at the same time and place on: Troy Outman and Woody will discuss design build landscaping from ideas to conception.
The Clark County Home And Idea Fair hosts display gardens by WALP members, many mini seminars and a host of vendors. Don’t forget to check out the many different plant vendors that will be there.

I have been asked by Clark County PUD to be a speaker Friday, April 23, 2010. It is for the Clark County Home and Idea Fair. I will speak at the speakers corner in the new exhibition hall. The seminar will be at 4:00 PM. It should last about 1 hour.
The title of my seminar is, “Growing Your Landscape Dreams Into Reality”.
I plan to cover why should our potential clients choose landscape designers and landscape contractors instead of being a DIYer. Nothing is wrong with home owners doing projects themselves, but I usually encounter a lack of planning, cheap materials and a very average job. I also plan to speak on how should homeowners choose a landscape designer or landscape contractor and think budget.
I will show some great examples of before and after shots of landscaping that were designed by landscape designers. Can the typical homeowner come up with visions like what I’ll show?
Most of the time, no.
The example below shows a woodsy setting. Could a typical home owner come up with what got installed. Yes, if they had a great designer and a qualified landscaper.

The garden shows in the north west seem to have the same power as the Crocus in the limerick, I made up today.. Every one is so ready to think gardens, landscaping, patio projects, and sprucing up the yard. The time has come for winter to end, and give rise to wonderful spring. To be truthful, I am more than ready to get very busy and start building my clients landscape dreams. It has been a dreary winter.
This year we will be working with Gregg and Ellis Landscape Design for the Home and Garden Show and The Better Living Show. Both of them are fantastic landscape designers. The Home and Garden Show is in the middle of February and the Better Living Show is on 3-26 to 3-28 2010. Both shows are also at the Expo in Portland OR.
We also are going to be in the Clark County Home and Idea Fair the fourth week of April.
All the shows should give great landscaping ideas and spark that feeling of spring.

A little video of our display last year titled, “Asian Fusion”.

Starting Friday April 24th 2009 we will have a landscape display at the Clark County Home and Idea Fair. This year all the landscape displays will be inside in the main hall. No more horse arena.

The name of our display is Asian Fusion. We are trying to tie the Pacific Northwest feel with a little Asian kick. We will have a paver patio with different height walls. Also included is a unique water feature, done by Dave Jensen of Acorn Solutions. The landscape design is done by Christine Ellis of Gregg and Ellis Landscape Designs. We are including some pretty large black bamboo in the over all design.

Friday at 4:00 pm I will be giving a talk. The title is ” Patios, Pathways, Secret Gardens, Oh My”. I plan to  show folks attending pictures of our work, and explain where and why people enjoy them. The theme will have under tones of the Wizard of Oz.

At 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm I will be answering questions with the title. Hardscaping “How Hard is it Anyway”. It will be a very informal format, so bring your questions.
