Custom Built Pergolas

This last summer we installed this pergola for our client. They wanted unique qualities to their pergola in which Scott (our lead supervisor) jumped right to it and came up with the design as well as ran the project. Over the years we have worked on a existing pond for them. We also installed a large flagstone patio area with stone seat walls and a firepit.
The pergola used some larger pieces of premium cedar and was primed and painted. The actual pergola was not that hard to make, but keeping the existing Wisteria out of our face during construction and putting it back in place, was to say the least tedious. The pergola that was there before had rotted posts due to improper installation methods. That was the primary reason a new one was in order. Who wants their pergola to fall down while your in the spa.

A Formal Sunken Patio Is A Great Way To Relax

Imagine stepping out your back door. Taking three or four steps to a single step down sunken patio. You get a feeling of total privacy. The landscape project has a formal look and seat walls surrounding the entire patio. The patio is made from 2by2 architectural paver slabs, with a 3″ gap, in which we installed Blue Star Creeper as the ground cover. I really loved the formal format of the landscape design and the finished product is all the rave with our clients. The finished hardscaping is cozy, private and states a simple elegance.

Woody’s landscaping is outstanding ! I contacted Woody’s to replace a path for me on a very steep slope. Woody promptly came out and gave me a reasonable estimate. Then the work began. The crew that came to my house was the best! They were friendly, professional, and extremely competent. The guys seemed to get along well with each other, and their rapport with Woody was excellent. What I appreciated most, however, was that they were able to problem-solve on the spot. The design for the path needed adjustments as the work progressed, and Scott, the foreman, presented me with options to fine-tune it. He always asked me what I wanted and his expert input helped me make decisions that made the path uniquely beautiful. The guys arrived promptly in the mornings, worked very hard, and cleaned up the place each night. I must say I have never seen such hard workers in my life and they stayed cheerful too. Superb Landscaping at a Reasonable Price
We recently contacted Woody to assist us in resolving some drainage problems in our lawn. He carefully analyzed the problem and gave us options for a solution. We chose the options which suited us best and gave him a green light to do the work. Shortly thereafter, Woody brought a very capable crew of his workers, and the drainage problem was solved in about 4-5 hours. They were very professional and didn’t leave until our lawn and the new french drains were looking great. We would highly recommend Woody’s for any landscaping projects you may have!!

Before And After Photographs Of Design Build Landscaping Vancouver WA

We started this Vancouver WA landscaping project last November. We were excited to get a larger landscape project in the late fall, but did not expect the finished project would end up as beautiful as it did. A lot of hard work went into the project and thanks to Outman’s Landscape Design we had a very nice set of plans to work with. The idea was to end up with a lot of interlocking concrete paver patio space that incorporated 2 covered pergolas, a water feature, a fire pit, seating wall, plantings,a CMU retaining wall that was faced with cultured stone, decomposed granite walkways and led landscape lighting. The slope was quite severe and we need 150 yards of 5/8″ minus gravel just to make a flat place for the patio. Now that the landscaping has been finished we are thrilled with the results after the first year. Check out the slide show and see for yourself. We are especially pleased with how the landscaping looks at night with the led landscape lighting we installed.

I had Woody come out about 6 years ago and reconstruct my front yard. We added a rock riverbed, custom brick pathways, retaining walls, all kinds of landscaping materials etc. I can’t say enough about his team, very professional and they knocked out a large project which including installing sprinkler system thought the front and back yard as well within 4 to 5 days. Cleanup everyday, it was a fantastic job done by his crew. His team supervisors were great. On top of all the guys etc.

Landscape Estimates Done The Hard Way

When my potential clients want a landscape estimate, I always try to help them figure out   what they want. When to many variables enter into the landscape estimate, I usually try to suggest thinking about landscape designers. The most recent estimate I went on was one with too many variables. There was no way to convince him that a simple landscape consultation, would benefit the outcome considerably. The problem was that he already had someone else providing them with a estimate but he did not have any idea of what they were proposing to install. This does not help the potential client at all. They had no idea of what kind of walls they wanted, type of plants or where things should go. This does not fair well with the landscape contractors that will be giving the landscape estimate. For example this client wanted a circular paver patio and fire pit. He did not know how large a patio he wanted, so I threw out a dimension for him. My concern was, 30-40 sq. feet of paver patio can make a $500.000 to $600.00 dollar difference in price. How is this a apples to apples bid? The other concern I had was the constant, How much is that? What’s the cheapest ? You can now assume that there was no way I was going to get the potential landscape client to spend a couple of hundred dollars to at least get a landscape consultation. This would help to him figure out what kind of walls should be installed, how big a patio should be bid on, what type of materials will be used. The way this estimate stands right now will probably be pure confusion on the clients part when they try to figure out what all the different prices are and how to compare them with each other.

Please if the project is a full yard landscaping, get at least a landscape consultation and hopefully a landscape design. It’s one of the best ways to get a idea of what you are doing, the materials to be used and of course a way for all landscape contractors to bid apples to apples.
The cheapest price does not mean anything, except dissatisfaction.

Fall Is The Best Time To Landscape

There is slight chance of 90 degree plus degree weather, making the survivability much greater for all planting and sod lawn installation. Later is in fall most of the coniferous plants are being dug, so the selection is great for quality stock of coniferous trees. It also happens to be the perfect time to plant them also. Both your new lawn and plants will have the advantage of the fall, winter and spring months of getting plenty of natural precipitation. those months are the months in which the plants will put down their roots for the spring growth.
