Interlocking Concrete Paver Installation

Number of View: 656

Interlocking concrete pavers have really come a long way from 10 years ago when they began to become very popular in Vancouver WA and Portland OR. The varieties and colors have really made a huge impact on what can be installed. I primarily use Mutual Materials for all our hardscaping needs. I thought I would show a video with a few of the stages of paver installation.

The first stage is to dig down and get rid of soil 7-8″ below finish grade. For a 200 square foot patio, this means about 5 yards of material must be hauled away if the existing soil is level. We then install barrier cloth to keep the soil layer away from the gravel. We then install 4″- 3/4″ minus gravel, which gets compacted twice at least. We then screed in 1″ concrete sand. You don’t want fine sand. It must have some small aggregate. Then we lay away, snap edge, sweep in sand and compact some more. We often install paver lock on our products which helps in keeping weeds, moss, and ant hills from forming.
