I’m not sure the economy is all that bad at this stage of the game. Between the home show, direct referrals, web site, and our reputation, it seems this season should be all right after all. Next week we are finishing up on our Lake Oswego job, cleaning a large pond from top to bottom, Installing a large paver patio in Vancouver, and installing a Ridgefield Wa. job which includes a cultured stone seat wall 75′ long,a new sod lawn, major grading, flagstone stepping stones as well as topdress and soil preparation. Last week we averaged about 30 estimates. This week we’ve given about 15. If only the rain would lesson somewhat. We have no idle time right now and I love it.
This week I gave names of three landscape designers we cooperate with, out to prospective clients. I try to fit the designer to the client the best I can. A lot of folks say, “Why don’t you design Woody”. I love to install, my employees love to install. Let those with the love of landscape design do just that. I feel our clients get a better product. When the plan goes out to bid all the landscape contractors are bidding exactly the same. It’s great for the client and puts the contractors bidding apples to apples, vs. pears to tomatoes. There is no way a client can truly tell which contractor is offering the better service and price if it pears to tomatoes. It’s two different type of animal.
