Video of a Flagstone Patio in Portland Oregon

Variegated flagstone is a great pick for many homes. The color is usually a combination of pale green and tans. Being a softer flagstone type it is great for cutting, thus making installation a little simpler.
The job we constructed was on a gravel base, exactly like installing concrete interlocking pavers. We dug down 7″ or so installed barrier cloth, put in 4″ of 5/8″ minus gravel and compacted. We then put a layer of 1/4″ minus down unlike pavers, which is a layer of sand and started installing the flagstone. We made sure we had gaps no more than 1″ which meant virtually every flagstone got cut.We cut out each piece of the flagstone before laying it permanently. We then started installing the flagstone, making sure we had a grade for drainage, and that every piece was even with each other. After the installation we used pave lock and 1/4″minus gravel combined to make a semi permanent filler for the joints.

The same job also had a lower patio that we installed in mortar on a concrete sub slab.
We also installed a 2 bubbler water feature.

Unique paver patio Vancouver Washington

At Woody’s Custom Landscaping, Inc, installing pavers have been a major part of our work load for years. We are a preferred contractor with Mutual Materials and are glad to have that honor. We usually gauge our jobs on how big they are, as installing pavers isn’t that hard. It does require you install them correctly and have a system for installing them that you can make a profit.

We have installed a paver patio that is pretty unique. Instead of installing the concrete pavers in a straight line or even a herringbone or random pattern, we installed them with a curve. It required a lot of cutting but I think you will see the results as unique and artistic. I would not of thought of it myself and I thank Hana Adamko for the very pleasing and artistic landscape design she did for our client.

Kym
Woody’s just installed a patio and firepit area for us that turned out fantastic!! Woody was very professional and accommodating to my every wish, as was his entire staff. Everyone was so helpful and efficient. They started work promptly each day and cleaned up before they left, so as not to leave a mess for us to look at while under construction. I could not have asked for a better crew to work with. The final product came out better than I imagined and of top notch quality. I would highly recommend Woody’s!!

Portland lights at night

I love the night lights of Portland Oregon. Big city lights, neon ablaze with unique signage, even street lights have their charm.
Most of us at home may not realize it, but we can have the same dramatic effect. It probably should not be as intense, but it sure can be beautiful. Low voltage lights around your home can high light pathways, trees, steps and patios. It will even help in security around your home.

Led lights are a wonderful way to express your landscaping at night and stay green. They use less energy. Bulbs no longer last 1 year or so but 10-15 years. You can run many more lights on a low voltage transformer vs. the standard incandescent low voltage lights. For example, we installed 146 led lights on a project this year all on a 800 watt transformer. Try that with low voltage regular lights. Three maybe four 800 watt transformers.
For your low voltage lighting needs, Woody’s Custom Landscaping, Inc. offers service and quality.

Concrete Interlocking Pavers for Driveways

Stone pavers have been used for thousands of years as major roads. The Roman Empire had many thoroughfares, that were indeed roads for their commerce as well as armies.
People ask all the time if concrete interlocking pavers will hold up for their driveways. Of course they will. It will last as long as to the quality of how it was installed.
One sure way to know if it is getting installed correctly, is by making sure certified people are doing the installing. Many companies have a certified person on staff, but frequently they are management and not in the field doing the installing.
At Woody’s we have 4 ICPI certified technicians. Two are usually put on each paver install we construct.
We are proud of the fact we are Mutual Materials Preferred Contractors. You can rest assured that in Vancouver and the Portland metro area we are both certified ICPI and NCMA which is certification for retaining walls. We don’t give our clients the minimum, we give maximum.

We have over 45 videos for you to enjoy and find the look that you really want. Just go on our web site.

Woodland Landscaping in Portland Oregon

Many of us are blessed with large trees on our property. Most of us don’t realize that many plants do real well under a canopy of evergreen trees. The job featured in this blog is a existing forest area. We installed lovely landscaping, including a cute gravel path, low voltage lights, pond and water fall, and many plants of different textures and colors. Yes, it can be done with filtered sun light. Yes, it can be done under fir trees. We are lucky that our client loves his yard and does a fantastic job on his maintenance of his yard.

Ponds and Waterfalls in Vancouver Washington

The water feature below is designed by Scott Andrews a supervisor with Woody’s Custom Landscaping, Inc.
It got added after we installed the paver driveway and other landscaping surround their home. We went all out with sand filters, in line pumps, skimmer and the whole 9 yards. To handle Koi the filtration system must be perfect or the fish can very easily get sick and die. The pond is very deep for such a small perimeter, giving the Koi ability to hide from their natural predators.
We split the waterfalls into two, giving it I think a very natural look. Many tons of wind swept moss boulders were included in the project to give it a feeling of a natural waterfall.
Please enjoy the video below.

Masonry and Hardscaping in action Vancouver Washington

Before we begin, let me warn you. There will be a lot of noise. What you will be seeing are pavers being installed for a rear patio by certified paver installers, pavers being cut, flagstone cutting for a stone seat wall, installation for the seat wall, and what looks like organized chaos. The point really is when done, our clients will know that all of us are truly craftsmen. Most of my employees are certified and highly skilled in all hardscaping aspects of landscaping.
Enjoy the noise.
